Piri Reis, has full name Muhy Addin Piri and he born at Gallipoli, Turkey at 1470 AD. He is nephew from Kemal Reis, one Ottoman Admiral at this time and according Palestinian Historian Jihad Turbani, Piri Reis also has many service at Ottoman Navy, that will we discuss at next.
His Uncle , Kemal Reis is Ottoman Admiral at era Sultan Bayezid II s Goverment. Portuguese want occupied Mecca at Saudi Arabia and Jerusalem at Palestine and at 1479 AD, Portuguese Admiral, Vasco Da Gama was achieve Calcutta at India. Piri Reis active at Ottoman Expedition for block Portuguese s effort to control Indian Ocean.
At 1535 AD, Bahadur Shah, Sultan Of Gujarat ask helped from Ottoman Empire for resistance to Portuguese Imperialist. Ottoman Sultan, Suleiman Al-Qanuni send navy uder Suleiman Pasha for help Bahadur Shah. At 1537 AD, Suleiman Pasha conquer Aden at Yemen and achieve Island Of Diu, India. Portuguese kill Bahadur Shah and Bahadur Shah s successor, Mahmud Shah make alliance with Portuguese. Portuguese Army also tried to captured Jeddah, Saudi Arabia. Bu, Emir Of Mecca, Sharif Numay can block Portuguese Army. According Ottoman Historian Mehmet Maksudoglu, if Portuguese Army can occupied Jeddah, maybe they will next their expedition to Mecca. At 1543 AD, Portuguese Army burn City Of Thursina and occupied Aden, Yemen.
At 1551 AD, Piri Reis, doing operation for captured Muscat, Oman from Portuguese Navy. After fierce battle, Portuguese Army retreat to Castle Of Hormuz. At 1553 AD, Portuguese Army block Bay Of Bashra and Piri Reis retreat to Cairo, Egypt that under Ottoman Empire , until Piri punished because his failed.
Piri Reis, also has two work, complete world map that he make at 1513 AD, that included Continent Of Africa, Europe, and America. Piri Reis also write book titled Kitab I Bahriyye (Turkish: Book Of Navigation) that tell us about cruise at Mediterranean Sea and expedition that doing by Iberians (Spanish and Portuguese) at new world ( Continent Of America) and Indian Ocean. Piri Reis present his book, Kitab I Bahriyye to Sultan Suleiman. And, at 1554 AD, Piri die because political intric at his job.
