Abd Hamid Ibn Badis, born at Constantine, Algeria, North Africa, at 1889 AD. Abd Hamid, originated from Algerian Nobleman Family. He is descedant from Al-Muiz Ibn Badis. Al-Muiz , is one King Of North Africa from Shanhaji Dynasty. He popular with his service liberate North Africa from Shia Dynasty Of Fathimid at Egypt at 435 H. Al-Muiz also make Maliki Traditions ( One Islamic Tradition at Fiqh) at North Africa under Shanhaji Dynasty. With this, Abd Hamid Ibn Badis has honour family three.
Though born from nobleman family, Abd Hamid Ibn Badis still studied hardly. Since his childhood, he was memorized Koran (Islamic Holy Book) and Sunnah (Islamic Traditions from Propeth Muhammad Shallahu Alaihi Wasallam).
His father send Ibn Badis to University Of Zaitunah, Tunisia for studied Islamic Religion. Ibn Badis also went to Mecca for doing pilgrimage. He meet one Indian Scholar, Shaykh Hussain Al-Hindi. Shaykh Hussain advise Ibn Badis for back to Algeria and back Algerian to Islam. Ibn Badis and Shaykh Hussain discussed it at Mecca.
According Historian Eugene Rogan, at 1865 AD, France Goverment at Algeria, after they captured this state, ask Muslim at Algeria to leave Islam Identity and became France Civilians. 1920 AD, Algeria was became France s Territories and 800.000 French People stay at Algeria. According Rogan, France Goverment doing discriminative goverment that make Algerian Muslim Natives for became 2 ND Class Civilian. Westernization doing by France and it is forced Algerian Muslims leave their identity and replaced it with France Identity. It is threatment for Algerian Identity. According Islamic Research and Study Team Of Egypt, France Goverment also erased Arabic Language and replaced it with French Language and exploitated Algeria s natural resources.
Ibn Badis doesnt silence with this reality. Ibn Badis teach Islam and Arabic Language to Algerian People. He found papernews and schools to became education facilities for Algerian People. At 1931 AD, Ibn Badis found Jumiyyah Al-Ulama Al-Muslimin ( Islamic Scholars Organization). Algerian Scholars choose Ibn Badis to became leader from this organization.
At this time, France help Sufism Group that called Muslims for ask to tomb. Ibn Badis confront several Sufism Grops that under France s support. Ibn Badis teach Islam according Propeth Muhammad Shallahu Alaihi Wasallam and his shahabas. This step, shape national identity at Algerian People as Muslim and Arabs. Unfortunately, Imam Ibn Badis die at 51 years old , at 1940 ADbefore seeing his state indepedence.
Before his die, Ibn Badis said:
“If i die, my cries will make Algeria and Arabs Life”
And, alright, after his die, Ibn Badis s students became heroes at Algeria Indepedence Hero. Beetwen 1954-1962 AD, broke Algeria Revolution. At this time, Algerian Fighters that consist of Ibn Badis s students againt France Colonialism at Algeria. At 1962 AD, after 130 years France Colonization, Algeria achieve his indepedence at 1962 AD, after France give independece to Algeria at Covenant Of Evian at 1962 AD.
