Al-Izz Ibn Abd Salam: Scholar Who Defend Truth At Hard Situation.

Today, we will discuss about one scholar who defend truth at hard situation. He is Izz Addin Ibn Abd Salam. He is one most influenced scholar at Egypt at middle age. Al-Izz Ibn Abd Salam, originated from North Africa. He born at 577 H and originated from poor family,  and born at Damascus, Syria, until he cannot studied Islam from his young age. But, at his old age , he studied  Islam at several scholars at Umayyad Mosque, Damascus. Until, he can became Imam ( Prayer leader) at Umayyad Mosque Of Damascus.

Al-Izz s life age , suffered instability politic at Ayyubid Dynasty that ruled Egypt, Syria, Palestine, and around it. Ayyubid Dynasty suffered game of throne. Crusader can expand their territories to several Ayyubid territories, such as Beirut, Safawi, Tiberias, Ascalon, until they can occupied Jerusalem at Palestine at 1229 AD, after Saladin, Founder Of Ayyubid Dynasty captured Jerusalem from Crusader at 1187 AD.

According Siyar Alam An-Nubala , Islamic Middle Age Chronichle that written by Imam Dhahabi, Ismail,  Ayyubid Ruler at Damascus , give Jerusalem to Crusader . Crusader also can occupied City Of Tiberias and Ascalon at Palestine. Ismail also submit Fortress Of Shafad and Thaqif to Crusader. And, give permit for Crusaders entred Damascus for buy weapons. Izz Ibn Abd Salam , criticize Ismail s policies at his lecturer. Ismail angry and he imprisoned Al-Izz. One night, Ismail talk with several Crusaders, and he said he was imprisoned Al-Izz. Crusaders said: “If he (Al Izz) bishop beetwen us, we will wash his feets and drink water that out from his feets.”

After this, Al-Izz moved to Egypt, Ayyubid Sultan at Egypt,  As-Shalih Najm Addin Ayyub , appointed him as Imam at Amr Ibn Ash Mosque at Cairo, Egypt. One day, Al-Izz find one liquor  store at  Cairo.  Al-Izz Ibn Abd Salam meet Sultan As-Shalih when Sultan As-Shalih with his army and his ministers march at  feast . Al-Izz said: “O, Ayyub, what your argument in front of Allah if he said to you: “ Isnt is was placed you at Kingdom Of Egypt, and you permit the liquor? After this, As-Shalih close this store.

After this, Al-Izz back to his students. And one from his student ask him, why he brave critics sultan with call his name? Al-Izz answer he doesnt fear to sultan because he more fear to Allah Subhananuwataala. 

When Egypt ruled by Mameluke Dynasty under Sultan Sayf Addin Quthuz, Al-Izz became one state adviser. Quthuz ruled from 1259-1260 AD, Mongols Army under Hulagu Khan, threatened Egypt. They can occupied Palestine and near to Egypt. Mongols want invaded Egypt.   At 658 H, Hulagu can occupied Damasus and at Egypt, one council held that lead by Shayk  Izz Addin Ibn Abd Salam. The council discuss how faced Mongols Invasion at Egypt.  Shaykh Izz Addin advice to Sultan Sayf Addin to take assets from Mameluke Princes, until they only have horse and weapon for fight. After this, Quthuz can take assets from people. Sayf Addin can collect many cost for fight againt Mongols Invasion. And Shaikh Izz Addin speech at Egypt Mosques for invited Egyptian Peoples to fight againt Mongols Invasion. 

At 658 H/1260 AD, broke Battle Of Ayn Jalut , near Gaza, Palestine beetwen Mongols and Mameluke Army. According Islamic Middle Age Historian, Imam Ibn Kathir, Mongols Army achieved 10.000 army and lead by their commander, Kitbugha/Katbagha. Kitbugha die .

Al-Izz write several books, such as Syajarah Al-Maarif, Al-Qawaid As-Shugra, Bidayah As- Sul fi Tafdhil Ar-Rasul Shallahu Alaihi Wasallam, and other.  He die at 660 H and burried at Tomb Of Qarrafa Al-Kubra, Egypt. May Allah Subhanahuwataala bless him.
