Kilic Ali: Forgotten Ottoman Admiral From Italy.

Today, we will discuss  about Kilic Ali, Forgotten Ottoman Admiral, who came from Italy. He has unique origins, because his struggle started from Italian Prisoner who became  rouwer at Ottoman Warships. Kilic Ali, has original name Geovanni Dionigi Galeni. He is son from One Italian Marines and he originated from Village Of Le Castilla, Calabria, Italy. At 1536 AD, Ottoman Empire launch one navy expedition under Khayr Addin Barbarossa to South Coastal Of Italy. Ottoman Army can captured Geovanni, who at this time was 17 years old. Geovanni became rower at Ottoman Ships. 

Geovanni, gather with Muslims at Ottoman Empire  and he amazed with Muslim s morals. Geovanni convert to Islam and he replaced his name to Aluj/Uluc Ali. Aluj learn Islam and after several time, he became one ship commander at one Ottoman Ship. He also work at Ottoman Territories at Algeria under Commander Hassan Ibn Khayr Addin Barbarossa. Aluj became Mayor Of Tlemcen, one city at Algeria. Aluj also became Ottoman Admiral. He doing several expedition to save Muslims at Spain who tortured by Christian Kingdom Of Spain. Aluj also join with Ottoman Admiral, Turgut Pasha at expedition to Sicily and help Turgut Pasha /Dragut to captured City Of Tripoly at Libya from Crusader Elite Army, Knight Of Hospitaller at 1551 AD.  After this, Aluj became Mayor at Samos Island, Greece that became Ottoman Empire s Territories. 

At 1565 AD, Aluj was became Mayor Of Alexandria, Egypt that became Ottoman Territories and he join Turgut Pasha and Ottoman Navy for attack Knight Of Hospitaller Basic at Malta. Ottoman Navy, according Historian Harold Lamb, consist of 4.500 Janissary (Ottoman Elite Army), 7.500 Sipahi/Cavalry without horse, and 18.000 engineers, marines, light infantries, and other). Malta, defended by 500 Hospitaller Knights, 1.300 mercenaries, with 4000 marines and Maltese People under Commander, Jean de  La Valette.Ottoman Army captured Fortress Of Malta and at this battle, Turgut killed. Ottoman Commander, replaced by Mustafa Pasha. Mushtafa Pasha retreat from Malta, but at East Malta Beach, Mushtafa landed 7000 warriors for block  reinforcements for Malta. Garcia de Toledo, Spain Governor at Malta,  bring 70 Galleys ( One warship at this age)and 10.000 Sicilian Warriors. They can defeat remnant of Ottoman Warriors. 

Aluj Ali replaced Mushtafa became Ottoman Navy Commander. He can save Ottoman Navy retreat from Malta. Aluj can attack Malta s Capital with Ottoman Cannons and bring his navy to retreat. According Palestinian Historian, Jihad at-Turbani, from Knight Of Hospitaller, fall 260 cavalries as victims. Jihad at-Turbani said, 8.500 Christians Army die at Malta. But, it is maybe copious. Because , according Lamb, Ottoman Navy cannot defeated 10.000 Sicilian Warriors and 70 Sicilian Galleys under Garcia de Toledo. Ali, became Mayors Of Tripoly at Libya,replaced Turgut Pasha.Kilic also became Governor Of Algeria.

At 1571 AD, Ottoman Army under Mustafa Pasha and Piyale Pasha  can captured Island Of Cyprus. At this time, Uluc Ali busy to liberate Spain from Kingdom Of Spain. Uluc colaborated with Muslims at Spain who rebel to Kingdom Of Spain. He collaborated with Muslim Revolutioneer, Muhammad Ibn Umayya. At 1569 AD, Uluc Ali send 14.000 Ottoman Army and 60.000 Algerians Army to attack Spain and help Muhammad Ibn Umayya s revolution. But, Muhammad Ibn Umayya s rebellion failed and he killed. And, at 1571 AD,  Ottoman Sultan, Salim II call Uluc to join with Ottoman Navy at Battle Of Lepanto/Inebahti againt European Navy that consist Of Papal State, Kingdom Of Spain,  Knight Of Hospitaller, and Venice Navy. At this time, Ottoman Navy defeated, but Uluc Ali can attack left wings from European Navy and captured Knight Of Hospitaller s command ships.  Uluc also save remnants from Ottoman Navy. Uluc get new titled Kilic ( Turkish: Sword) Ali Pasha. Kilic can became highest Ottoman Admiral. He can re build new navy that destroyed at Battle Of Lepanto, that consist of 200 ships.

At 1573 AD, Kilic lead Ottoman Navy to attack Tunisia that occupied by Kingdom Of Spain. With 300 warships, Kilic can captured Tunisia from Kingdom Of Spain. At 1587 AD, Kilic Ali die and he burried at Ottoman Capital, Istanbul/ Constantinople. May Allah Subhanahuwataala bless him.
