Abbas Ibn Firnas, is one Muslim Scholar who has many skills. According Palestinian Historian Jihad at-Turbani, Abbas Ibn Firnas is Poet, doctors, Fiqh (Islamic Law) Expert, apotecers, philosoph, expert at Arabic Language, and other. He has full name Abbas Ibn Firdas Ibn Wardus, and originated from Berber ( North African Natives) who born at 810 AD at Rand Onda, Spain when Spain ruled by Umayyad Dynasty.
Ibn Firnas, studied at Bagdad, Abbasid Dynasty Caliphate and center of knowledge at this time. At Bagdad, Ibn Firnas studied several knowledge such as astrology, astronomy, technic, and music. He studied at Bayt Al-Hikma, one center of knowledge at Bagdad, and at Bayt Al-Hikmah, many poet, scientist, artist and other. Ibn Firnas can handled many knowledge when he studied at Bayt Al-Hikma. After studied at Bayt Al-Hikma, Ibn Firnas became teacher at Umayyad Dynasty Palace. He became teacher who dedicated for Umayyad Caliph, Abd Ar-Rahman II. He became teacher for less than 30 years. According Islamic History and Research Team Of Egypt, at age of Abd Ar-Rahman II Goverment, Umayyad Dynasty s Capital, Cordova became beautiful city at Europe at this time. Many beautiful palaces builded at Cordova at this time.
According Historian Philip.K.Hitti, Ibn Firnas popular as scholar who introduced Eastern Music to Spain. According Jihad at-Turbani, Ibn Firnas make planetarium at his house, that included stars, suns, month, and other planets. And, he also tried to make first flight in the world. Ibn Firnas also popular as first people in history who find times gauge and binoculars for seeing starts at the sky.
According Historian Philip.K.Hitti, Ibn Firnas is first man who doing trial for fly at the sky. He make wings from furs and tried to fly. When he landed, he hurt . According Researcher Azhari Muyana, Ibn Firnas s wings dont have tail for balance, and it is make Ibn Firnas fall at his trial to fly. According Researcher Azhar Yousuf, Ibn Firnas make his wings with bamboo and fur. Ibn Firnas tried to jump from Mosque Of Cordova with his wings and he fall and injured at this event. According Jihad at-Turbani, several historians dramatized this event, that Ibn Firnas fall until die at his flight.
According Azhari Mulyana, Ibn Firnas suffered injury at his ridge s bones and his feed also broke at this event. Because this, Ibn Firnas cannot next his flight .
But, his idea became material for next European Scientist for next flight s invention. At 1260 AD, Roger Bacon make ornitopher teory, about benefit from tail at wings. Bacon learn Ibn Firnas s written about flight and he corrected it, remember Ibn Firnas doesnt add tail at his wings. 600 years after Ibn Firnas s die at 887 AD, Leonardo Davinci make several sketch about flight machine .
