Abd Malik Ibn Umar, is son from Caliph Umar Ibn Abd Aziz ( life 681-720 AD). Caliph Umar Ibn Abd Aziz, has 15 childs. And, according Syrian Historian, DR.Abdurrahman Rafat Basya, the best Caliph Umar s son is Abd Malik. According Abdurrahman Rafat, Abd Malik is expert at literature, clever, and has adult think. He also handsome man.
This pious, illustrated by information that delivered by Ashim Ibn Abu Bakr Ibn Abd Aziz, Caliph Umar Ibn Abd Aziz s nephew. One day, he visit Umar Ibn Abd Aziz at his house and he meet Abd Malik. Ashim, sleep at Umar Ibn Abd Aziz s house and at the night, he seeing Abd Malik wake at midnight for doing Tahajjud Prayer.
Abd Malik pray and read QS.As-Shuara: 205-207, that contained:
أَفَرَءَيْتَ إِن مَّتَّعْنَـٰهُمْ سِنِينَ ٢٠٥ثُمَّ جَآءَهُم مَّا كَانُوا۟ يُوعَدُونَ ٢٠٦مَآ أَغْنَىٰ عَنْهُم مَّا كَانُوا۟ يُمَتَّعُونَ ٢٠٧
"Imagine ˹O Prophet˺ if We allowed them enjoyment for years, then there came to them what they had been threatened with, would that enjoyment be of any benefit to them ˹at all˺?
According Ashim, Abd Malik repeat this verses and it is make him cry. Ashim said: “Oh, this child ( Abd Malik) can die because his crying”. Ashim said :” Lailahailallah Wal Hamdulillah ( not god but Allah and all praise to him). “ Abd Malik stopped from his crying.
According Abdurrahman Rafat, when he became a younger, Abd Malik studied Islam to many Islamic Scholars at his age, until he can became competent man at Koran ( Islamic Holy Book) and Hadiths ( Islamic Oral Traditions from Propeth Muhammad Shallahu Alaihi Wasallam) and according Abdurrahman Rafat, at this time, he equivalent with several scholars at his age.
Caliph Umar Ibn Abd Aziz, became Umayyad Caliph at 717 AD. After his coronation became caliph, he went to his bedroom and sleep. Abd Malik came to his father and ask about this. Caliph Umar Ibn Abd Aziz said he is so tired. Abd Malik tell Caliph Umar Ibn Abd Aziz about several people who lost his right because oppresed. Caliph Umar Ibn Abd Aziz said he will finish this problem after Pray Of Dhuhr. But, Abd Malik said:
“Who guarantee your age until Dhuhr, O Amr Al-Muminin ( nickname for caliph at Arabic that this mean is leader from believers)”?
Caliph Umar huge his son and kiss his son s forehead. He said :”All praise to Allah who give me from my descedants people who help me for run religion”.
One day, Umar Ibn Abd Aziz call his son, Abd Malik for join with council that held with Koran and Fiqh Scholar at Syria for finish problem at Syria. Several Umayyad Noblemens was rob people s assets. One scholar give idea that Umar Ibn Abd Aziz doesnt must back this. Abd Malik give idea that Umar must back this assets if he know his owner.

n s idea. Abd Malik also more love Murabathah ( Arabic: keep state boundaries from enemy) than stay at Damascus, Umayyad Caliphate Capital.
Though he is son from caliph, Abd Malik life simplifly. According Maimoon, one minister from Umar Ibn Abd Aziz, Abd Malik only eat meet, fennel beans, vinegar, and oil. It is simple food for nobleman family at this time. He was give example how son from important man life simpleness. May Allah Subhanahuwataala bless him.
