Sulthan Ibn Sayf: Forgotten Islamic Hero From Oman.

Today, we will discuss about Sulthan Ibn Sayf, forgotten Islamic Hero from Oman who stopped Portuguese Colonization at Oman and also take Portuguese Territories at Africa. Oman, is one state at Middle East, that have big role for help Ottoman Empire struggle againt Safavid Dynasty at Persia. At 1188 H, Ruler Of Oman, Ahmad Ibn Said al-Busaidi, send helped to Ottoman Army for faced Safavid Army at Bashra, Iraq.

Oman, also one state at Middle East that faced Portuguese Colonization. At 1508 AD, Portuguese Army expand their territories to several main seaports at Oman and Portuguese Admiral, Vasco da Gama,  drowned one Oman ship that pick Hajj Pilgrims at Bay Of Oman. Portuguese also make alliance with Safavid Dynasty,  one main enemy from Kingdom Of Oman. Ottoman Empire, sends their army for help Oman struggle againt Portuguese s invasion.

At 16 TH Century, Portuguese Navy fight againt Ottoman Empire at Middle East.  At 1537 AD, Ottoman Empire send army to help Bahadur Shah, Ruler Of Gujarat, againt Portuguese Colonization at India.  And, at 1554 AD, Ottoman Navy under Seydi Ali Reis can destroyed Portuguese Navy at Muscat. According Prof.DR.Mehmet Maksudoglu, Ottoman Historian, many Portuguese Ships drown and Seydi Ali Reis go to India. At India, he meet Humayun, Sultan Of India from Mughal Dynasty.

Unfortunately, with help from Safavid Dynasty, Portuguese Army can occupied several Oman s ports and also Island Of Socotra at Yemen. But, Oman s fighters with help from Ottoman Army can captured several Portuguese Fortress. At 1588 AD, Portuguese build two fortress at Oman, al-Mirani and al-Jalali at Muscat. Oman split into two territories. Coastal territories that ruled by Portuguese, and also  interior territories that occupied by several Oman tribes that became enemy one by one.  Because Portuguese Colonization, Oman territories split, into appear one commander, named Nashir Ibn Murshid al-Yarabi. He can united all Oman Tribes to attack Portuguese Colonization. At 1624 AD, he became Ruler Of Oman and he can lead Oman Army destroy Portuguese Army at Battle Of Thuwa ar-Rulah. Portuguese make peace covenant with him. Only City Of Muscat that still under Portuguese Colonization. Point from this covenant are: 1.Portuguese must leave their colonies at Sohar, 2.they must pay tribute to Oman, 3. Oman Peoples can visit Muscat without disturb from Portuguese Side.

Nashir Ibn Murshid die at 1649 AD, he was found strong Oman state under Yaruba Dynasty. After his die, he replaced by his cousin, Sulthan Ibn Sayf, who can kick out Portuguese from Land Oman.

At 1650 AD, Sulthan Ibn Saif collect big warriors and next fighting againt Portuguese Army. He can defeated Portuguese Army at Muscat and destroy Portuguese Army and navy.  After this, Portuguese retreat from Oman and Sulthan build strong navy. With his navy, he can invaded Portuguese Colonies at Indian Ocean. At 1655 AD, he send expedition to Bemba and at 1668 AD, he send expedition to Island Of Qeshm. He also invaded Fortress Of Diu at West India, that can bring many spoils. With this spoils, he build Fortress Of Nizwa. He also build Fortress Of Nizwa at Oman and he send many expedition to East Africa, for kick Portuguese Colonization at 1650, 1652, and 1655 AD. Oman Army also captured City Of Mombasa at East Africa from Portuguese Colony. Oman people spread Islam at East Africa. They build many mosques at East Africa. 

According Islamic History and Research Team Of Egypt, at age of Yaruba Dynasty, Oman have 90.000 army and also giant navy, and many fortress.
