Salim Maula Abu Hudhayfa: Koran Reading Master Who Martyred at Battle Of Yamama.

Today, we will discuss about Salim Maula Abu Hudhayfa. He is one Propeth Muhammad Shallahu Alaihi Wasallam s shahaba who originated from slave class, became Koran ( Islamic Holy Book) reading master  and die at one most important battle at Early Islamic History, Battle Of Yamama  during goverment age of First Caliph from Rashidun Caliphate, Abu Bakr as-Shiddiq(ruled 632-634 AD).

He has original name Salim Ibn Maqil. And he originated from Istahkhr, Iran. He became slave from Abu Hudhayfa, one Anshar ( Residents Of Medina) Nobleman. And, wife fom Abu Hudhayfa, Thubaytan bint Yaar al Anshariyya, liberated Salim from slavery. His name, became Salim Maula Abu Hudhayfa. Maula, is nickname for slave who was free from slavery.

At Siyar Alam an-Nubala, Islamic History Cannon Book that written by Imam Dhahabi, mentioned that Salim became Imam ( prayer leader) for Muslims for 3 times, at Quba, Ushba, and at Mecca. When tell about Salim s biography, Imam Dhahabi cited Propeth Muhammad Shallahu Alaihi Wasallam Hadith ( Islamic Oral Tradition from Propeth Muhammad Shallahu Alaihi Wasallam)  that narrated by Imam Ahmad, about Salim. Salim, at this Hadith praised by Rasulullah Shallahu Alaihi Wasallam when recite Koran at mosque, because his skill read Koran with good recitation. Propeth Muhammad Shallahu Alaihi Wasallam fraternize Salim with one Propeth Muhammad Shallahu Alaihi Wasallam s shahaba, Abu Ubayda Ibn Jarrah. Salim married Abu Hudhayfa s cousin, Fathima bint Walid.

When goverment era of Caliph Abu Bakr as-Shiddiq ( ruled 632-634 AD), broke rebellion from many Arabian Tribes that reject  loyality to Rashidun Caliphate s center at Medina.From them, tribes at Yemen, Yamama, and Oman. Caliph Abu Bakr , send army to attack rebels who doing resistance to Rashidun Caliphate.  Because, they are disturb Rashidun Caliphate.

Salim, join Muslims Army that sended to Yamama for faced false Propeth Musaylama al-Kadhab. Battle Of Yamama happened at 12 Hijriyya. Muslims Army lead by Commander Khalid Ibn Walid and Salim became Muslims Army s banner s keeper. At this battle, Rashidun Army ever forced and at this event, Salim dig hole for himself.  And he said: “are we like this at age of Propeth Muhammad Shallahu Alaihi Wasallam?.

After this, Salim fight with brave, until he die at this dig. He bring Muslims Army s banner until he die because killed.  According Imam Dhahabi, Salim s body finded at battlefield with his boss, Abu Hudhayfa who also fight at Battle Of Yamama with condition one head from them at other them s foot.  Before his die, Salim was sell his heritage to Caliph Umar Ibn Khattab and this price achieve 200 dirham. After this, Salim give result from this sell to his mother for his mother s life s budget.

Caliph Umar Ibn Khattab, second caliph from Rashidun Caliphate ( ruled 634-644 AD) praise Salim as most credible people at Muslims Society after Abu Ubayda Ibn Jarrah. May Allah Subhanahuwataala bless him.
