Story of Usayd ibn Hudhair: Medina Nobleman who Praised Propeth Muhammad as Best Man

Today, we will discuss about Usayd ibn Hudhair, one Propeth Muhammad Shallahu Alaihi Wasallam s shahaba from Medina s Nobleman. He popular with diligently at read Koran ( Islamic Holy Book) and  humorous s character. Usayd, has fullname Usayd ibn Hudhair ibn Simak ibn Atik ibn Nafi ibn Imru ul Qays ibn Zaid ibn Abdu Ashal. He life at 7 TH Century and called by Abu Yahya, and one nobleman from Tribe of Aus, one tribe at Medina. According Syrian Historian Abdurrahman Rafat Basya, Usayd popular as expert swordman and also writer at his tribe.  He get special title al-Kamil ( Arabic: the perfect). 

One day, Mushab ibn Umayr, first Islamic Preacher, came to Medina and he preach Islam at Medina, it is happened before Propeth Muhammad Shallahu Alaihi Wasallam moved to Medina. And, Propeth Muhammad still stay at Mecca. Know this, Usayd who not yet confert to Islam angry and he decide to meet Mushab ibn Umayr. He bring his spear and meet Mushab ibn Umayr. Usayd angry and threat will kill Mushab. Mushab patient and he tried to explained about Islam. Mushab, read several Koran s verses to Usayd. Usayd interest and he convert to Islam.  Other nobleman from Tribe of Aus, Saad ibn Muadh, also convert to Islam.

At 622 AD, Propeth Muhammad Shallahu Alaihi Wasallam and his shahabas moved to Medina and build Islamic State basic at this city.  And, was many people from Tribe of Aus convert to Islam. Native of Medina, from Aus and Khazraj who convert to Islam and became Propeth Muhammad Shallahu Alaihi Wasallam s shahabas called by Anshar ( the helpers).

According Abdurrahman,  Usayd is one shahaba who so loved read Koran. Usayd also has good voice when read Koran. Until, other shahabas hear Usayd s read.  Usayd love alone and read Koran. And, one day, Usayd sit at back of his house and read Koran. Yahya, his son, sleep beside him. Usayd s horse bound at this place. This night, is quiet night.

Usayd, recite Koran Surah al Baqara: 1-4. His horse jump. Usayd stopped to read. And, hi horse calm. Usayd seeing at sea. He seeing full by lamps. Tomorrow, he meet Propeth Muhammad Shallahu Alaihi Wasallam . He tell event at this night to propeth. Propeth Muhammad said that angels hear Usayd s recitation.

Not only popular as Koran reciter, Usayd also popular with his brave.  According Abdurrahman, he fight at Battle of Uhud  625 AD when Muslims Army forced and defeated  by Pagan Quraish Army. At this battle, he protect Propeth Muhammad until he get 7 wounds at his body. Usayd also fight at many battles for Islamic Honour.

Usayd , has long age. He life until age of Umayyad best Caliph, Umar ibn Abd Aziz ( ruled 717-720 AD). And, Usayd die atage of Caliph Umar ibn Abd Aziz. When Usayd die, Usayd has debt as many 4 Dirhams.  Usayd s childrens will sell one land from Usayd s asset for  pay off Usayd s debt. Caliph Umar ibn Abd Aziz know this and he want help them. Caliph Umar invited people who have debt with Usayd for talk and they agree for buy fruits from Usayd s land at time 4 years. And, all years, his price is 1000 Dirham.
