Abu Qasim an-Naisabury: Persian Historian Who Write About Crazy Peoples

Maybe, we strange with historian who special write story about crazy peoples at past. Abu Qasim, has original name Hassan ibn Muhammad ibn Hassan ibn Habib an-Naisabury. He knowed die at 1016 AD. And, from this surname, we can know, he originated from Nishapur, Iran/Persia . He life at age of Abbasid Dynasty that based at Baghdad, Iraq. Abu Qasim, is big scholar at his age, mentioned he expert at history, included history of Islamic Intelectuals and kings history. And, also expert at historical critics, and Koran ( Islamic Holy Book) Interpretation. He popular with his expert at historian.

At Abbasid Dynasty era, Islamic Historiography develop. According Philip.K. Hitti, many Historians at Abbasid Dynasty write several book that adopted themes about biography, political history, and other. Started by Muhammad ibn Ishaq /Ibn Ishaq ( die at 767 AD)  from Baghdad who write Sirat Rasul Allah that tell us about biography of Propeth Muhammad Shallahu Alaihi Wasallam.  Ibn Abd Hakam ( die 870/1), an Egypt Historian, write Futuh Mishr wa Akhbaruha that tell us about Islamic Conquest at Egypt, North Africa, and Spain. Ahmad ibn Yahya al-Baladhuri ( die 892 AD) from Persia write Futuh al Buldan that tell us about Islamic Conquest at many cities. Imam Thabari ( die 923 AD) write Tarikh al-Rusul wa al-Muluk that containes story about propeths and kings. It is popular theme at Abbasid Dynasty Era. But, Abu Qasim take different step. Write history that dont popular at his age. History about crazy peoples from age of shahabas until age of his life. It is he write at his book, Uqala al-Majanin ( wisdom from crazy peoples) . Abu Qasim, at his book, tell us about process this book written. According his narration, Abu Qasim has several students and they ask Abu Qasim write about history from crazy peoples. According Abu Qasim at his book, he codificated this book with refrences several books about crazy problem. Such as book of al Jahizh, Ibn Abd Dunya, Ahmad ibn Luqman, and Abu Ali Sahal ibn Ali al-Baghdadi. But, Abu Qasim s book considered as one first book that discuss crazy peoples by historical point of view. Not only literature study, Abu Qasim also write he ever meet several crazy peoples for search sources. Several crazy peoples that he write at his book included people who considered crazy at shahaba era such as Uways al-Qarni and crazy womens, such as Rihana.

Abu Qasim visit several hospital at Merv, Iran, and Herat, Afghanistan. One of hospital that he visit located at Nishapur, Iran. At this hospital, he meet Abu Shadiq, one crazy young man who bounded becaused often rebel and shouted. Abu Shadiq read one poem, and dance wih bounded condition until fainted.

Not only write about biography from crazy peoples, Abu Qasim also give us  valuable informations about how crazy peoples at Abbasid Dynasty get their medicine. He write that at this age, crazy peoples must stay at one shelter that managed by one officer that mentioned Al-Jazi . Al-Jazi has duty give medicine to them and of course hit them , because several crazy peoples disturb security. It is valuable informations for Islamic History Research.

After leaved legacy, Abu Qasim die at 1016 AD. He was leave very valuable legacy for Islamic Historiography. May Allah Subhanahuwataala bless him.
