Abu Ala al-Hamdhani: Hardworker Scholar From Iran

 

Today, we will discuss about Abu Ala al-Hamdhani, one hardworker scholar from Iran who also popular with his works. Until, mentioned by Imam Dhahabi that he used all his assets for studied, until  spend heritage from his father. He has full name Hassan ibn Ahmad ibn Hassan ibn Ahmad ibn Muhammad ibn Sahal ibn Salama ibn Atskal ibn Ishaq ibn Hanbal al-Hamdhani al-Athar. He originated from Hamadhan, Iran, and born at 488 H.  At 495 H, he leave Hamadhan to Khorasan  and studied book  Shahih Muslim, one major book at Hadiths ( Islamic Oral Traditions from Propeth Muhammad Shallahu Alaihi Wasallam ) to Muhammad ibn Fadhl al-Furadi, and also studied to Al-Duni.  He also studied to Abu Ahmad Abd Wahab ibn Sukayna about Qiraat ( method for recite Koran/Islamic Holy Book).

When studied, he sell all heritages from his father for study cost. . Mentioned that when studied at Baghdad, he only sleep at mosque and eat smoke bread. He also memorized Book of Al-Gharbiyyin that written by Abu Ubayd al-Harawi.  Until, at one Mosque a Baghdad, Abu Ala must written by stand because lamp from this mosque high.  All people who seeing him cry, included Jewishs at Baghdad.

Last his voyages, is at 40 years old when he studied at Baghdad, Iraq.  Other studied, he also teach Hadiths to his childs, inclueded hadiths from Abu Fadhl al-Urmawi. According Imam Dhahabi, Imam Abu Ala al-Hamdhani mastered Hadiths, Qiraat, and literatures.

His works also  included many fields. He weite Zad al-Musafir  that achieved 50 volumes.  And, also , book about biography from Qurra  ( Koran Recite Scholars) that achieve 20 volumes. At his age, his books sended to Khwarezm and Syria.

When became scholar, he also generous to his students. He became richman at this time, but always giving alms to his students. He teach Koran and Hadiths to his students. Many people respect to him, until people of Khwarizm who adherent Mutazila Sect.

Mentioned by Imam Dhahabi, he die at Hamadhan at 569 Hijriyya, at 80 years old. May Allah Subhanahuwataala bless him.
