Abu Zurah ar-Razi: Hadith Scholar Who Has Unique Die Story

Today, we will discuss about Abu Zurah ar-Razi, Hadith ( Islamic Oral Tradition from Propeth Muhammad Shallahu Alaihi Wasallam ) s  Scholar who has unique story at his die. Abu Zurah, is one scholar who memorized many Hadiths at his age. But, his die story also unique at Islamic History. His name is Ubaydilla ibn Abd Karim ibn Yazid ibn Farouk. And, he born at 190 Hijriyya. His title is al-Hafizh Abu Zurah al-Qurashi al-Makhzumi ar-Razi. From his name, we can know he originated from Tribe of Quraish, main tribe at Mecca. He start his journey for studied Hadiths at 11 years old. At Kufa, Iraq, he studied to Abdullah ibn Shalih al-Ijli and Hassan ibn Athiyya ibn Najih. Unfortunately, also at 200 Hijriyya, Abdullah ibn Shalih and Hassan ibn Athiyya die. He also studied to Abu al-Waleed at-Thayalisi, Qalun al-Muqri, Amr ibn Hashim al-Biruti, and other. According Imam Dhahabi , he also studied to many Islamic Lands. Such as Rayy, Bashra, Haramayn ( Mecca and Medina at Saudi Arabia), Baghdad, that at this time became capital from Abbasid Caliphate. And also, al-Jazira, Egypt, and Syria.

Imam Dhahabi, recorded Abu Zurah s efforts to studied Hadiths. He quoted from Shalih ibn Jazara, that Abu Zurah write  one his teacher, Ibrahim ibn Musa ar-Razy, Abu Zurah write 100.000 Hadiths, and from other teacher, Abu Bakr ibn Abi Shayba. And, dont only write, he also memorized more than 100.000 Hadiths. It is make Abu Zurah became teacher from many Hadith Scholars, such as Imam Muslim, Imam Nasai, and Imam Ibn Majah.

Imam Dhahabi also quoted several statements from several scholars that praises Abu Zurah. Ishaq ibn Rahawayh, said that: “I hear Abu Zurah said: “I was memorized 10.000 Hadiths at Qiraat ( method to read Koran/Islamic Holy Book). Abdullah ibn Ahmad, said, that Abu Zurah has so strong memory.

And, uniquely, Imam Dhahabi has strong commitment to Hadith Knowledge. When hear song at market, he close his ear. At Abbasid Dynasty Era, study about Hadiths adherent so important.  Because, Hadiths as oral tradition from Propeth Muhammad Shallahu Alaihi Wasallam , became explainer from Koran. And, two Abu Zurah s student, Imam Muslim ( die 875 AD)  write Shahih Muslim, and Imam Tirmidhi  ( die 892 AD), write Jami Tirmidhi , that two book from their became one main Hadith s cannon book for Muslims.

Muhammad Ibn Isa at-Tirmidhi: The Great Memorizer.

And, Abu Zurah, also has unique die story, According Imam Dhahabi,, when near with his die, Abu Zurah sick and when sick, he pray to Allah that he so miss to Allah. And, according Abu Hatim,  that quoted by Imam Dhahabi, Abu Zurah die because  leprosy and when dying, his forehead full with sweats. Abu Hatim, one eyewitness, ask question to Muhammad ibn Muslim: “What Hadiths that you memorized about dictate corpse with Tauhid ( Islamic Theological Creed) “?. Muhammad ibn Muslim mentioned: “Narrated from Muadh....” And, Abu Zurah next: “Narrated from Abd Hamid ibn Jafar  from Shalih ibn Abi Arib from Kathir ibn Murrah from Propeth Muhammad Shallahu Alaihi Wasallam : “Who his end from his  saying Lailahailalllah ( no god other Allah), will entered heaven.” After this,Abu Zurah die and peoples who visit Abu Zurah at this time cried. He die at 264 Hijriyya. May Allah Subhanahuwataala bless him.
